Jack and Abby save my day

I wish I could say that the situation I found myself in last Tuesday was a fluke, but honestly, I am starting to think this kind of bad luck is all-too-typical for me. It was the first time in the four years I have had this business that I needed my car for a weekday shoot…and it wouldn’t start. Was I losing my mind? I had JUST driven it a day before and it was just fine. After much swearing and a few frantic phone calls, AAA deduced that the battery was dead. Awesome. They were luckily able to replace it in record time, and since this family was incredibly patient and flexible, we were still able to have our session together, albeit a few hours later. You know you love your job when you have a morning like that, and within two seconds of beginning work, you’re happy again and all is forgotten. I have Jack and Abby to thank for that. This dynamic brother and sister duo totally rocked their photo shoot and in about a half hour proved to be top models. They were so cooperative and smiley, gave each other kisses and hugs and were absolute dream clients. Dead battery? What dead battery? A big fat THANK YOU goes out to this family for being so nice, understanding and fun and reminding me not to sweat the small stuff.

Ryan in Winnemac Park

Cara had an idea for a photo that she thought might be a little crazy. But the minute she told me about it, standing there in Winnemac Park on an overcast Sunday afternoon last week, I knew we had to try it. Little Ryan was a great sport, smiling and laughing in his little jeans with his chest and toes bare. He was the picture of summer, sitting there in the grass.  I just love how those photos turned out. Thanks for braving the bad weather report and hanging out with us, Cara, Vern and Ryan! We had such a great time and it was so nice to see you three again.

Landon and the baby bump in Lincoln Park

It’s an understatement to say that Mike and I have really enjoyed getting to know this family over the years. Landon was just a peanut the first time we met him, and I still can’t get over the little boy he has suddenly, miraculously grown into. We’ve documented birthday parties and cherished holiday together time for Karina, Jason and Landon…and last weekend, we were thrilled to capture another of this family’s milestones. At 29 weeks pregnant, Karina couldn’t have looked happier, more peaceful or more excited for their baby girl to arrive in just a few more weeks. The love this family shares is palpable and that always shines through in their photographs. I’m so glad we snuck this session in, even with the threat of rain, last Sunday morning. The Lincoln Park Zoo has been one of my favorite places in Chicago for years. Last weekend it got just a little more special. Congratulations again, Karina and Jason! I can’t wait to meet your baby girl later this year!

Evan and Avery

I love this family! Mike and I had such a great time with them in Millennium Park last Saturday morning. Once again, the rain held off and the skies were beautifully overcast. I’m just dying over how the colors are popping in these photos. Perfectly coordinated, Diana…well done! Evan and Avery did an incredible job of smiling and cuddling and we had a blast exploring the park with them. They’re getting so big! It was great seeing you again, Diana and Eddie.

Aubrey

Last Friday kicked off three days of wondering whether we were going to get our four scheduled outdoor shoots in because of threatening weather. I’m pleased to report that Chicago weather services were wrong enough that, after a lot of deliberation, back-up planning and finger-crossing, we shot all four sessions with beautiful over-cast light and not a drop of rain to ruin our spirits. WOOHOO! Friday’s session with baby Aubrey kicked off my fantastic weekend. This three-month-old was such a great sport, giving me her best top-model poses all around Lincoln Park Zoo. She especially rocked her tummy-time poses in her little jeggings (which continually cracked me up). It was so nice to meet you, Jenica and Dan! Thanks for spending the afternoon with me.
